I think most patients can agree the two most exciting appointments are the day they get their braces on & the day they get them off. It takes just a few months in treatment before we start hearing the orthodontic equivalent of the question every kid likes to ask on a road trip (“Are we there yet???”). In our world, that question is, “When am I going to get my braces off?”
Removal day is by far one of our favorite appointments. You can expect this appointment to take anywhere from 60-80 minutes. Dr. Prine will use bracket removing instruments to gently squeeze the base of your brackets. When this happens, the bracket cement is gently broken and releases, allowing the brackets and/or bands to be removed from your tooth. Once all of the appliances are detached, Dr. Prine will use a special hand-piece and an assortment of tools to carefully remove the bonding cement and polish the enamel of your teeth.
Once your braces are off, it’s time to enjoy your new smile. Once your braces are off, you’ll move into retention to make sure your beautiful Dr. Prine smile stays braces-off fresh. You will wear your custom made retainers as instructed by Dr. Prine and you should continue to visit your family dentist regularly.
